September is Healthy Aging Month. Learn the 9 steps to healthy aging as originally written in 1954 by John A. Schindler, M.D., mind-body medicine pioneer. He wisely said “Emotional stress produces physical illness.” I added the last 3 steps, which also contribute to health of body, mind, and spirit.
HOW TO LIVE A HUNDRED YEARS HAPPILY
Do not be on the lookout for ill health.
Keep useful at work.
Have a hobby.
Learn to be satisfied.
Keep on liking people.
Meet adversity valiantly.
Meet the little problems of life with decision.
Above all, maintain a good sense of humor, best done by saying something pleasant every time you get a chance.
Live and make the present hour pleasant and cheerful. Keep your mind out of the past, and keep it out of the future.*

Let me introduce you to Annette. She drew my attention at the gym because she was having so much fun dancing on the treadmill. Wearing headphones, she jives, twirls, and sometimes sings to the music while effortlessly balancing on the treadmill. She is absolutely oblivious to me and all the other patrons as she glides and slides to her Latin music for two straight hours, three times a week.
You might be wondering why I’m sharing my beauty tips….promoting beauty is slightly off-topic, right? After all, my message focuses on health of body, mind, and spirit—not beauty. For me, a beautiful person (male or female) is one who is loving, serene, giving, peaceful, joyful, patient, kind, open, and vibrant. My tips describe the things I try to do as I strive for this kind of beauty. As you will see, there are multiple links between my beauty tips, positive psychology, health, and, ultimately, beauty…

I arrive at 6:20AM towards the end of the session just as Larry shouts, “Time for the Subway mile.” Spread out on the church parking lot are 25 boot campers of varying ages and shapes. They immediately take off running up Adelphi Road towards the Subway shop on the nearby campus of University of Maryland.
